Who is responsible

The controller of personal data processed through the Service is the whobetter.lol service provider.

What we collect

We keep the Service small. We collect only the data we need to run the platform, take payment, prevent abuse and understand traffic.

• Visitor identifier. A random ID in an HTTP cookie, stored for at most one year. We use it to tie a payment to a browser, limit duplicate click counts and keep the board usable. It is not your name.
• Listing and comment data. The URL, username or profile link you submit, the category, the description, and the public name and image we resolve for that destination. If you commented: the text of the comment and, if you gave one, the name you entered. That name is optional and is not verified.
• Moderation record. When you add a site or an account, the IP address of the submission and — if the CDN in front of the site reports it — the country code are stored with the listing. These two fields are visible ONLY in the admin panel; they never appear on any public page, API response or statistics dashboard. Their purpose is detecting spam and abuse. This is a deliberate exception to the “no raw IP is stored” rule that applies elsewhere on the site: visit counters and likes still work only from a salted, irreversible digest.
• Clicks. When you visit a listing on the board, we may record the listing, the time, the visitor ID and a hashed IP address. Hashing is for rate limiting and reducing fake clicks, not for profiling.
• Technical data. Standard request data such as user agent, referrer and IP address may be processed by our server to operate and secure the Service.
• Messages you send us. If you email a notice, a category correction or a privacy request, we keep that correspondence as long as needed to reply and to keep a legal record.

Cookies

The visitor ID cookie is strictly necessary: it makes payment and click protection work. We do not use it for advertising. Analytics on whobetter.lol load with a cookieless script. Your browser or device may also store a theme preference locally so the page stays light or dark.

Why we use this data

• Contract. To take payment, create or raise a listing, show the ranking and provide the service you asked for.
• Legitimate interests. To keep the board fair (rate limits, bot filtering), display public listing metadata, measure visits, fix outages and defend legal claims. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests, as described below.
• Legal obligation. To keep tax, accounting and complaint records where the law requires it.

Public listings

Ranks, like and comment counts, names, images, descriptions and destination links on the board are public. Anyone, including search engines, can see them. If you do not want this shown, do not submit a destination. So visitors can recognise a listing, we fetch public metadata from the site or social media profile you submit. That fetch may reveal to the destination that whobetter.lol requested the page.

Who we share data with

• We show a public statistics page.
• Hosting, database and edge infrastructure needed to run the site (currently hostlab).
• Identity helpers (for example profile and avatar services) so we can show a name and image before and after payment.
• Professional advisers, authorities or a buyer of the Service, where we need to share data to comply with the law, enforce the Terms or transfer the project.

We do not sell your personal data. Some processors may be outside the European Economic Area. Where we rely on them, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or an equivalent mechanism they provide.

How long we keep it

• Visitor IDs stay in the cookie for at most one year, or until you clear cookies.
• Public ranking records stay as long as the listing is on the board, and may remain in backups or activity history for a limited time after removal.
• Payment identifiers and amounts are kept as long as needed for accounting, tax, fraud and dispute resolution.
• Click records and IP hashes are kept only as long as they are useful for rate limiting, abuse prevention and aggregate counts.

Your rights

If the GDPR or a similar law applies to you, you can ask us to access, correct, delete or export the personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on it. You may also complain to a supervisory authority in Germany or in your country of residence.

Please email info@whobetter.lol. We may need enough information to find your data. Public listing content that also appears on your own website or social media account does not become private merely because it appears on the board; you can ask us to remove the listing.

Children

This service is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child is using this service, contact us and we will delete what we can identify.

Changes

We may update this policy when the Service or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows the current version. If a change is material, we will publish the updated policy here.
